Top 5 Types of People John McCain is Banking On

As each nail is hammered into the coffin and each day that passes is one day closer to finally putting his ghastly campaign to rest, I wonder what ever other sane, rational person has been wondering, why are people still voting for John McCain? Here are the top five types of people that John McCain is banking on will STILL pull ‘Republican’ on Election Day

5. Xenophobic – According to the dictionary, those who are xenophobic exhibit an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange. These people fear any sort of change from the status quo. They aren’t racist per se, but they fear that which they do not know. For these people, Barack Obama is too far off the radar for reasonable choice. By running a campaign based on, “change you can believe in,” John McCain appeals to the rational side of this type of person which acknowledges change is desperately needed yet also allows the irrational side to be content with a more ‘normal’ politician. Everyone is a little xenophobic, but most people realize they are being irrational. By conjuring McCarthy-esque fear mongering, John McCain’s campaign has the goal of making it harder for you to realize the irrationality behind your xenophobia. A perfect example of a xenophobic McCain supporter would be that crazy lady who thinks that Obama is an Arab.

4. Fundamentalists – According to the dictionary, someone considered a fundamentalist is said to be apart of a movement in American Protestantism that arose in the early part of the 20th century in reaction to modernism and that stresses the infallibility of the Bible not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record, holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines as the creation of the world, the virgin birth, physical resurrection, atonement by the sacrificial death of Christ, and the Second Coming. Fundamentalists are completely irrational. John McCain chose Sarah Palin specifically for this reason. Despite the obvious gaps in her qualifications, shady undertakings, and lack of any sort of noticeable intelligence, Fundamentalists loyally and without waiver give her support. They hate those that seek to modernize and progress, blindly led to vote McCain. She relates to them and them to her, no surprise there.

3. Sociopaths – According to the dictionary, a person, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. Sounds kind of rough, but a key theme to Republican ideology has always been ‘self-reliance’ and ‘blah blah blah, screw everyone else’. For instance, guess who the vast majority of AIG / Wall St Bankers are donating most of their money to? The same Wall St guys who have been taking spa and hunting trips on tax payer money are the guys who are supporting McCain. Is it because they believe he represents your best interest, probably not. John’s ‘anti spread the wealth’ campaigning is an appeal to this type of person. Perhaps, not 100% sociopathic, this voter is easily manipulated into forgetting his fellow man at the societal level. He may think of himself helpful as part of a local community, but not willing to sacrifice for those outside of who he knows.

2. Racists – Those who hold a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. This is a nation that was founded with slavery, made up of immigrants, and to this day cannot get over itself. There are lots of racists out there and they won’t be voting for ‘that one’.

1. The Ignorant – Also known as, those who are lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact, i.e. unaware. Most informed people cringe every time they hear John McCain make up some lie about Obama’s policy. We wonder why he keeps on telling lies, waging a negative campaign, and outright denying that he’s doing it. It’s pretty simple; John McCain thinks that Americans are ignorant. He thinks that people will be stupid enough not to do any research into his politics that he can get away with anything that he wants.

Will our nation continued to be viewed as xenophobic, racist, sociopathic, ignorant, fundamentalists, or will we prove to be smarter than the world expects us to be? I guess we’ll find out Nov 4th.

  1. Interesting point here - in that we cannot just say ‘Republicans’ will vote for McCain come 4 November, as we know of several Republicans who have publicly stated their opposition to McCain and their intentions to vote for Obama. From Susan Eisenhower to Colin Powell and even onto Ken Adelman, Republicans are deserting McCain.

So just whom does that leave in the category of ‘McCain voter’?

Well, you have his friends and family - although we can be fairly certain that the black McCain’s of Mississippi will not be remembering their cousin come election day; only fair for all of the times he has ignored them - even claiming to be unaware of just who was living in that rundown house across from the former ‘big house’ on the plantation.

Outside of that group, you have the folks enumerated above; I tend to think of the ‘libertarians’ - you know, your Ron Paul Republicans - as an amalgamation of the racist type and the sociopath, depending upon how tightly they hew to the Ayn Randian philosophies (like Andrea Mitchell’s husband, former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan) versus how enraptured they are of the ‘Lost Cause’ narrative of your average Jesse Helms Republican.

Regardless of the typography of the McCain voter, we should all be grateful that their day in the sun is closing with the end of the Bush Administration and that a new American will rise from the ashes of their incendiary economic and political philosophies - much like a Phoenix.
