Oh George, how I miss you! So much could be said here about why you should purchase the newly released George Harrison collection Let It Roll - Songs of George Harrison but you know why. If not, just take a listen to “Someday” and you’ll know. Sigh, only 58 years old when he died. Is there any more proof needed to see this world is unjust?

I don’t understand the Republican and NeoCon love affair with Illinois Gov Rod Blagojevich; I just can’t get it. When the first news of this possible scandal hit the airwaves was my thoughts were, “Damn this is going to revitalize the neocon base and start the wood chopping all over again.”, but I was wrong. Today I was asked by an ultra conservative, fundamentalist christian about what I thought of Rod Blagojevich. Previously I’ve had conversations about politics with this person and figured that they’d use the Blagojevich news to demonstrate the lack of moral fortitude of my side of the ballot. So I sheepishly replied that I thought he should be thrown in jail and that any abuse of power by an elected official, republican or democrat, for personal or political gain, should be considered almost treasonous, as it puts the country at war with one mans self interest. I should have known better. I should have watched more FoxNews. Her response, “Ehh I don’t know, my husband read a book, and Rod did a lot of great things for the state of Illinois. Did you know that he gave a book to every child every month in order to get them out of a rutt? He did a lot of good, I don’t know…” I was floored. I didn’t have to disown him, which I gladly would have, because she had already adopted Blagojevich.
These people don’t care at all about Blagojevich’s actions, at all. The only thing they care about is whether or not they get to point the “I told you Obama is no saint” finger as soon as they can. It’s…
Fourth Grade Social Studies paints a beautiful picture of legislative process. It teaches us that the federal government is a simple, law making machine. Is it safe to assume that everyone remembers the cartoon video about how a bill becomes a law, you know, from the same people who brought you “Three, The Magic Number?” You remember that? The bill is born, vote in the House, vote in the Senate, President signs it, and BAM, law! Forget it.
It probably took less than an hour after waking up this morning to find out that “The Auto Bailout Bill” failed in the Senate, but actually it was never even officially discussed on the floor. Instead, a vote to limit the amount of time for debate, to no more than 30 hours, on “HR7005 - To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide alternative minimum tax relief for individuals for 2008″ failed, 52-35, to achieve the necessary 60 votes. That was the end of the “Auto Bailout Bill.”
Confused yet? The actual “Auto Bailout Bill”, created by Barney Frank in the House of Representatives, is HR7321. It was passed in the House and received in the Senate on December 11, 2008. Senate rules require that in order for a Bill to be brought onto the floor for consideration it must be read aloud on two separate occasions. This bill was never even read once. Instead, through a complex labyrinth of procedure, the Senators were able to tank it without ever considering it.
Here’s how it went down:
HR7005 has absolutely nothing to do with cars. It was designed to provide relief from the alternative minimum tax and subsequently passed…
God Bless America.
This is probably old news by now, but I’ll post it anyhow.
Kevin Smith’s latest feature film, “Zach and Miri Make a Porno” was banned by Megaplex Theaters in the state of Utah. Megaplex is contolled by Utah Jazz principal owner and entertainment mogul Larry Miller. The film depicts nudity and strong sexual content which was deemed too morally reprehensible to be screened. Meanwhile “Saw V,” which is “rated R for sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, language and brief nudity” by the MPAA is playing.
I’ve always wondered about this. “Fight Club” which has graphic scenes of violence, including massive amounts of blood, was on regular cable TV the other day; it was unedited except for the language. Why is it that realistic violence is OK, but profanity and nudity is not? Miller, a devout Mormon, also created controversy when he pulled “Brokeback Mountain” from Megaplex Theaters after learning that the film involved a homosexual romance story. Movies that have scenes with graphic violence are routinely shown, but even the slightest nipple appearance is blurred out in any film.
I understand people not wanting their children to see hardcore sex scenes, but that should be up to individual families. Why do some of the same people that complain about the government wanting to take their guns away want to control the media with censorship? It doesn’t add up.
