Too Much Regulation: Repeal the Pure Food and Drug Act!

For too long the meat packing and pharmaceutical industries have shouldered the burden and blame for irresponsible, blind consumerism. The passage of The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, regulating the production and sale of toxic food and drug products, will have disastrous and crippling effects on its respective industries.

Upton Sinclair, known socialist and person most responsible for the recent, unjustified public outrage, asserts that there are inherent injustices in free market capitalism. This view is categorically inane. Furthermore, the underlying philosophy of this assertion is at complete odds with the spirit of self-reliance and personal responsibility that this country has been built upon. The American people need no more affirmation than that which is afforded to them by the invisible hand of the market. It is this mechanism of economic natural selection, the emphasis of ingenuity and development that has spurred the growth and prominence of this Nation. Firms by nature will always be inclined to provide the highest and best quality good in order to attract buyers. Responsible buyers will always be aware of the processes, production, and future value of the goods they purchase. No government hand holding is needed amongst this great lot!

By signing this act into law, the Roosevelt Administration and the 56th Congress have overstepped the scope of their duties and responsibilities as defined by the constitution. No one should be surprised when the meat packing industry and pharmaceutical industry succumb to the weight of these new regulations and collapse.
