Miss California: Wrong But Still Way Smarter Than You

caliThis day and age it seems that “controversy” is giving apple pie a run for its money as far as all things American Iconic are concerned; everyone wants a piece apparently. Frankly it’s embarrassing and the latest hoopla over the Miss USA pageant is absolutely absurd and certainly no exception.

In case you haven’t heard, Perez Hilton, asked Miss California during the pageant what she thought about gay marriage. She answered, apparently inappropriately, because half of the country now thinks the content of her response cost her the crown. I sure hope not, because that’s pretty damn sad.

Let’s take it from the top.

1) Perez Hilton is judging the contest, Why? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like Perez Hilton just as much as the next guy, but I don’t follow the logic behind vetting him as a qualified judge. Unless of course the poor excuse for a former epic tradition that has since suffered a slow and painful death of popularity, in what can only be imagined as a final seizure during it’s battle to maintain the dignity and integrity it may once have enjoyed, hired him as a ratings booster. Nothing like a little controversy, right? Just for a second, just to see how it feels.

2) Why would you ask a person who is 18 years old and has spent most of her life behind a mirror an incredibly charged political hot button question to which she almost certainly has no adequate response. Did I miss something, do they now judge that part of the contest on how well you can evade isolating half of America? Perhaps the follow question could be something like, “Do you…

Why do Republicans hate Americans so much?

It’s often occurred to me and I think it’s an honest, and well deserved, question. Of course, I realize that trying to analyze ‘conservative’ social philosophy in terms of logic and reason is, well, often more useful for treating narcolepsy than promoting intellectual or political discovery, but the simultaneous embodiment of epic disdain for our own oppressed and compassionate love for the oppressed of others is really… confusing. OK, confusing is too generous since it would suggest some sort of explainable phenomena, it’s just down right illogical to me.

Take for instance the idea of giving to your church missionaries who are “improving” the lives of poor kids in the Dominican Republic, India, or any other 3rd world nation. Why not give it to aid workers who are helping the poor kids in the 3rd world areas of our nation? Sure, some might argue that the REAL point of the mission trips is to spread god’s love, and hence, yet ever disgustingly, the actual improvements for the kids, the ones that actually make their lives observably better, are just a means to that end, but last time I turned on conservative media, there are heathen running rampant all over this country, God’s country I might add. There must be poor heathen too, why not spread god’s love, in the form of housing, food, education to them? How can an ideology support this sort of giving and scoff at the thought of paying a little more in taxes for universal insurance programs aimed at a welfare mother who can’t afford to take a minimum wage job, not because she doesn’t want to work, but because her family…

Obama Resigns, Hillary Hired.

Not exactly the headline you’d expect to see Sunday morning as you stop at the bottom of the driveway, bend down, pick up the paper, and make the habitual groggy-steaming-coffee-in-hand-slipper-footed-robe-donned turn back toward the homestead, circa 8:20am, thirty-five minutes before firing up the ole minivan, loading up the kids, and driving to choir practice, but nonetheless a definite possible preview of a tribune near you. The first portion of the headline, much to the chagrin of Republicans everywhere, primarily those known for two-word only headline skimming, who in the resulting fit of joy, happily call friends and family in western times zones waking them up at ungodly hours only to find out a minute too late that A) it does not refer to Obama’s Presidential-Elect position but rather his Senate seat B) that’s only the beginning of the problem.

It’s a fact that there are plenty of Northeastern Republican supporters who absolutely despise Hillary Clinton’s existence. Stemming all the way back to when she loaded up all the carpet she had, put it in a really big bag, slung it over her shoulder, and moved to New York, there’s a lot of bitterness left over from her ascension to Pat Moynihan’s vacated senate seat at the very moment most Clinton family haters thought they’d finally be rid of Clintons in government. Eight years later, another sigh of relief for Republicans was had at the hands of Barack Obama, an unlikely dark horse candidate, who narrowly defeated a would be shoo-in for President, Hillary Clinton. Four months later, despite a statistical dead heat at the beginning of the race, a lengthy head start for Republican candidate John…

Baked Alaska: Robots on Fire or Oops, I Did It Again.

There are situations in life where we are afforded the opportunity to make mistakes, and there are situations in life where we are not. Some of the situations can be very serious, some trivial, but all in all forgiveness is possible. We may not forget the actions, but we’ll accept the error in judgement as not representative of the essence of the person. For some, a cheating spouse might be forgiven if the circumstances are swallowable. For others, perhaps not. A lot of the time it comes down to the ‘thought behind the action’. If the action is claimed to be well thought out and sound by the person or group making the action, it becomes harder to justify a claim of consistent good judgement.

Judgement trumps experience, I think we can all agree on that. A leader without good judgement blindly leads his or her followers into despair and ruin. Bush is a leader without good judgement, 70% of Americans agree with that.

Furthermore, the Republicans who voted for Bush, have less judgement, but their error in judgement is forgivable. Republicans who voted for Bush the first time were not afforded the true opportunity to see his character and thus should not ultimately be held responsible. The Republicans who voted for Bush the second time were tricked and manipulated to vote for Bush on issues like gay marriage, an issue Bush has yet to address.

This time is different. Over the last few weeks, Americans have been afforded the opportunity to see how poor John McCain’s Judgement is. Each and every day a new example is brought to our attention on just how terrible his judgement really…

What’s a Party Without Politics?

I’ve been keeping tabs on John McCain’s daughter.

I’ve been following her politics for a few months now.  I guess I’ve been cyber-stalking her website, http://www.mccainblogette.com, in hopes of better understanding how rational, intelligent young people can support conservative Republican morality and still maintain any sort of progressiveness. It does seem paradoxial, almost inherently oxymoronic, to think that any intelligent person can honestly state that issues of traditional values are relevant to ‘running a country’.

I asked myself what then could the difference be between John McCain’s Columbia educated, indie rockin’ daughter and me, bleeding heart, hippie hating liberal. It dawned on me: Nothing but some metaphorical balls.

I think that most intelligent young people consider themselves independent. To do otherwise, that is identify with a specific party politic, is foolish in the sense that it implys a lack of ‘independent’ thinking. While circular in reasoning, the point makes sense.

John McCain’s daughter once considered herself independent. She recently registered as a Republican to show solidarity with her father. (Can’t say I blame her for that, course personally, I wouldn’t vote for my dad if he were running for president, inspite of the fact I love him to death.) If you read her interviews or follow her blog, she’s a walking talking republican humanitarian piece. Before I equate her to the NBC news coverage of the Bejing Olympics, let me first state that she reads like a great person. I enjoy her take on life, politics, and family. I find it compelling and touching, and that’s the whole problem.

Republicans are not compassionate. They are selfish social darwinists. They support narrowmindedness, racism, sexism, and hate. They war and exploit, feed the rich, and brainwash and manipulate.

Why is…
