New Music Tuesday - Twista, Daughtry, Owl City

Twista - Category 5

If you like old school Outkast - think Stankonia - you should definitely check out Twista’s latest album, Category 5 - drops today, $9.99 iTunes. We’d be very surprised if there weren’t a few Billboard hits to come off this disc throughout the summer. Plus, R. Kelly is featured on one song called ‘Yellow Light’, anyone else find that ironic?

Daughtry - Leave This Town

Jay-Z must also have had Daughtry’s latest album in mind when writing ‘death of auto-tune’ because as demonstrated by last night’s home run derby performance, Daughtry live sucks. On the other hand, the new album (out today -$12.99 iTunes) is a masterpiece of digitization - hopefully the producer is getting some major points on this one. Sorry to anyone who buys a ticket to see them live.

Owl City - Ocean Eyes

Can’t wait for another The Postal Service album? Check out Owl City - hard to even distinguish this Jesus lovin’ 23-yr old. That said, he’s pretty good and there’s always room for some more excellent elctro-pop, right?

The Mars Volta - Octahedron

Uh oh, big trouble; all signs point to the occurrence of one of modernity sexiest crooners having ‘gone done it again’. The latest album, Octahedron - a shape with eight different yet equally sized faces, is most aptly named. Simply put, The Mars Volta beautifully juxtaposes the melodic seductiveness of simplicity with the infinite mathematical complexity of superior musicianship in a way that could hardly escape the reach of even the most untrained ear. Infinitely attainable, this album is a MUST BUY. If this album isn’t one of the best to drop this year, we are all truly very lucky indeed. One Word: Fan-Fucking-Tastic.

Get it on iTunes here!

The Quiet One - Viva George Harrison

Oh George, how I miss you! So much could be said here about why you should purchase the newly released George Harrison collection Let It Roll - Songs of George Harrison but you know why. If not, just take a listen to “Someday” and you’ll know. Sigh, only 58 years old when he died. Is there any more proof needed to see this world is unjust?

Last Night on the Mass Pike

April 12, 2006 marked a historic day not only for the people of Massachusetts but also for state and federal policymakers and the national populous as a whole. On the aforementioned date, Mitt Romney, then governor of the commonwealth of Massachusetts, signed into law the Massachusetts Health Reform Bill. According to John Holahan, director of the Health Policy Center, Urban Institute, in Washington D.C., “the essence of the legislation is a mandate that everyone in the state have health insurance if affordable coverage is available.” (2006) On April 12, 2006 Massachusetts had passed a milestone on a very ambitious and hereto unprecedented journey to provide health insurance to virtually all of its constituents.

Massachusetts makes a logical proving ground for progressive health reform initiatives to be tested. For the better half of the last century, the state has been represented by Sen. Ted Kennedy who has been and continues to be a longtime champion for health reform. His consistent validation at the polls every six years makes it no surprise that 92 percent of the generally population in Massachusetts believes that health care is a right. (Blendon, 2008). However, it would be a mistake to consider the passage of legislation of this nature to be a slam dunk for policy makers and advocates- as history shows it was not. Many consider advocating for universal health care to be analogous with the democrat party policy and platform, but as many may recall from the 2008 presidential elections, Mitt Romney is a republican. Interestingly the federal government by threatening to reduce the amount of funding it was providing to Massachusetts for an expanded Medicaid program and the imminent…

The Bacardi Music - Matt and Kim

Not sure if anyone else noticed that Bacardi has a really catchy song in their new mojito ad. It’s called “Day Light” by Matt and Kim I’d heard it a few times but was too lazy to get up and go searching around for the artist. Against all odds I got off my ass this morning despite possibly having taken part in drunken sublime sing-a-longs last night and did a lil ’soul’ searchin. Anyways, I grabbed the album from iTunes and am enjoying the rest. Check it out, only $6.99
